A nice and relatively long ski route to the summit of Dawinkopf, with a steep couloir in the end and a bit of scrambling to the summit cross.
Starting point: Parking on the toboggan track above Grins
Ending point: Parking on the toboggan track above Grins
Ascend: 1800vm / 6h
Exposition: South-west/ south
The high plateau in front of Dawinkopf is an extremely popular ski touring destination near Landeck. The ascent from Grins along the tobbogan track is ideal even in periods with lack of snow down-low.
Route:
From the parking lot, follow the toboggan track all the way up until the area of Dawinalm and Strenger Skihütte. The ski hut is open whole winter and is a great place to have a drink on the way down. From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Samnaun group, the prominent Hoher Riffler, and far up toward the Arlberg.
Ascend north through a large bowl until you see a large couloir veering off to the right. Keep going up the couloir. It gets progressively steeper and narrower and requires boot-packing for the last 150 verticals or so. Once you arrive to the ridge, there is a ski depot. Continue the last 100 verticals or so along the ridge south-eastwards, following the fixed cables. until arriving to the summit cross of Dawinkopf (2970m).
Descend:
Same as the way up.
