Lampsenspitze(2875 m) from Praxmar
Technical difficulty: 4/10
Fitness: 5/10
Objective danger: 3/10
Landscape: 7/10
Busy: 7/10
This easy and relatively avalanche-safe tour offers a consistently beautiful descent on ideally inclined, moderately steep terrain. Navigation is not difficult, and there is usually a good track already in place. Thus, the Lampsenspitze is a very popular ski mountain.
Starting point: Praxmar
Ascend: 1200vm / 3h
Exposition: East
Route:
Begin by ascending to the right towards the former ski slope above the Alpengasthof Praxmar. Follow the former slope northwest until you reach a usually groomed “Rodelbahn” (toboggan run). Turn right and follow the path until you see a forest clearing on your left. Climb through the clearing and soon after, continue through sparse forest in a westerly direction. You'll cross the “Rodelbahn” several times. You'll then face a beautiful, open slope. Ascend the moderately steep slope to a clearly visible large cairn at the upper left end of the slope. This is the so-called Schönbichl (2348 m).
If you want to continue to Lampsen, do not follow any tracks to the left, as they lead to Zischgeles. Instead, head straight across the undulating terrain into a small valley. Follow this and the pole markings, passing a few steeper steps until you reach 2540 m. Traverse a few meters to the right below an outcrop, and then ascend a wide depression westward to the Satteljoch saddle (2734 m) where you can leave your skis.
Continue on foot – without difficulty – over the rocky summit structure in a northerly direction. Then turn left and follow the ridge directly to the large summit cross. The ascent from the ski depot takes approximately 15 minutes.
Descent:
The ideal undulating terrain offers many opportunities for a beautiful descent, even off the ascent route. Skiers familiar with the area can also traverse to the north during the descent. This usually leads to untracked terrain, and then you can ski past the northern side of the Zirmkogel. You'll eventually reach an uncleared road that will guide you back to Praxmar.
