A relatively short and very popular tour from Kühtai to the summit of Mitterzeigerkopf. Easy day out with a nice skiing line.
Starting point: Bus stop “Galerie” above Zirmbachalm
Ending point: Bus stop “Galerie” above Zirmbachalm
Ascend: 800vm / 2h
Exposition: South-east
Not too difficult, this tour is also very suitable for beginners. Beautiful slopes below the Kreuzjoch down to the water basin. For those who haven't had enough with this summit, there is also the option to ascend from the Kreuzjoch along the wide ridge towards the northeast to the Kreuzjochkogel (often also on foot and without skis). Or, under very safe conditions, carry skis on the back and then descend directly from the summit - often prone to avalanches, so it's best and safest on firn snow! Also possible to combine with other summits in the valley, like Rietzer Grieskogel or Hochalter.
Route:
From the bus stop, head briefly towards the east at a diagonal right, and after the short wooded area, head north-northwest on the right side of the Klammbach (the stream) into the valley. After a water reservoir, continue upwards slightly to the right, and at an elevation of about 2300 m, the ascent track to the Rietzer Grieskogel splits of into the right but we continue and ascend straight ahead towards north-northwest in several turns to the Kreuzjoch (2563 m).
To the left of the pass, on a small plateau, put your skis on your back and cover the last few meters on foot over the usually corniced ridge towards south-southwest to the Mitterzaigerkopf (2628 m) with its small cross.
Descend:
The descent is the same as the ascent. For an alternative route in good conditions, traverse below the summit across a flat terrain diagonally south to Hochalter, and then ski down through long, beautiful east-facing slopes to the valley floor.
