Short technical loop in Wilder Kaiser

Technical difficulty: 8/10
Fitness: 3/10
Objective danger: 8/10 (lot of exposed sections)
Landscape: 6/10
Busy: 6/10

A short and very technical loop at the heart of Wilder Kaiser, from Wochenbrunneralm up through the Klammlweg to the Gruttenhütte and through the Jubilaumssteig and Gaudeamushütte back.

Starting point: Parking lot at Wochenbrunner Alm
Ending point: Parking lot at Wochenbrunner Alm
Length:
7km
Vertical: 600m
Speed: Really technical and exposed trails.

Route:

Park at the Wochenbrunner Alm parking lot (5Eur toll road to get there) and start heading up the Gamswegl in the direction of Gaudeaumshütte. Just before reaching the hut, we turn north and follow the signs towards “Klamml klettersteig”. Pass the start of the Via Feratta and follow a steep trail with wooden stairs through a narrow gap between rocks.

Once through the gap, you get to a small plateau and see the Gruttenhütte in front of you. From the hut, continue north-east towards the Jubilaumssteig. This is a really exposed and technical trail with amazing views and some nice scrammbling sections.

After the technical sections end, turn off to a trail heading south downhill back towards the Gaudeamushütte. From the hut, you can just follow the forest road back to the parking lot.

Pro tip: You can bring your Via Ferrata set and do the Klamml Via Feratta instead of the Klammlweg on the way up.
