Axamer Kögele (2097m)
Technical difficulty: 2/10
Fitness: 3/10
Objective danger: 2/10
Landscape: 4/10
Busy: 4/10
The summit of Axamer Kögele is a good option for early morning or after work. An early season alternative down the slopes of Axamer Lizum makes this a good option for low snow days as well.
Starting point: Axams Kögelestraße
Ending point: Axamer Lizum (or same as start)
Ascend: 1400vm / 3h
Exposition: North / East
Route:
We start from the Kögelestraße (Kögele street) in Axams. There are parking places along the street. Strap in and start walking on the shallow village ski slope towards an old slope heading uphill north. The way up is really straight forward just following the slope uphill, but gets really steep in parts as we go on. About two thirds up the hill, the forest opens up and we get some views over the city of Innsbruck, as well as towards Nockspitze and into the Sellrain valley.
The summit of Axamer Kögele (2097m) is a small rocky outcrop with a cross on it. A nice place to sit for a bit and look around.
Descent:
If there is enough snow, we can descent the same way we came up, back down to Axams. Alternatively, we can continue from the summit along the ridge south towards the Axamer Lizum ski resort. We can ski down the slope from the top station of the lift at Pfeisen (2250m) or continue all the way until the summit of Hoadl (2340m). The slopes here are usually open from second half of November. After finishing in the parking lot, there is a free bus that will take us back to the village of Axams. You can find more information about the bus here.
