The Muttekopf is located in the southern Lechtal Alps. This is a varied and fantastic ski tour in the Imst touring area. The ascent is interesting, with a short intermediate descent and a great summit slope. On the descent back into the valley, the north-facing slopes below the Alpjöcher often offer dreamlike powder snow throughout the winter.
Route:
Follow the ski slope up from the parking lot until Untermarkter Alm. The slope is following a gentle slope uphill. From the cable car station follow the Malchbachtlift slope until its end.
From the cable car station, ascend along the valley towards the Muttekopfhütte. Continue west through the valley floor, heading directly towards the massive steep slope of the Muttekopf. Towards the end, the climb becomes quite steep, leading to the ridge that runs northeast toward the summit. Follow this ridge for a few minutes to the clearly visible summit cross, with no significant difficulties.
Descend:
(easy option) Descent back the way you came up.
(interesting option) From the summit cross, follow the ridge north for a few more minutes. Pass one couloir with a tricky entrance and get to another steep coloir heading east down. It follows a logical line the couloir until you get back to the Muttekopfhütte. From here, follow the route of ascend back to the slopes and to your car.
